Mar 21 - China Telecom’s 2011 Net Profit Increases 7.5% to CNY 16.5 Billion

+       On March 20, China Telecom Co., Ltd. released its financial report, showing that the company’s operating revenue reached CNY 245.04 billion in 2011, a 11.45% year-on-year increase; net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company was CNY 16.5 billion, a 7.5% year-on-year increase; earnings per share (EPS) was CNY 0.2.
+       In 2011, China Telecom’s mobile subscribers increased 39.7% year-on-year to 126 million users at the year end, and the number of 3G subscribers increased 195.3% to 36.29 million, a market share of 28.5% in China’s 3G market.

China Mobile is, with the largest user base share, still the most profitable company in the mobile telecommunication industry. However, in the 3G business, the gaps among the Big 3 operators are small.

Feb 21 - China Unicom Sees Stable Growth in 3G Users

+       On February 20, China United Network Communications Ltd. (China Unicom) (SSE: 600050; HKEX: 0762) published its operational data for January 2012 on the HKEX.
+       Mobile services: the number of 2G users totaled 159.82 million, with a net increase of 182,000; the number of 3G users totaled 43.07 million, with a net increase of 3.05 million (including 200,000 3G wireless users).
+       Fixed-line services: the number of local telephone users totaled 92.51 million, with a net reduction of 341,000; the number of broadband users totaled 56.58 million, with a net increase of 924,000.

Subscriber growth of 3G maintains its single digit growth, while for 2G, it has started to level off.

Jan 20 - China’s 3G Subscribers Reach 128 Million, 3G Investments Totaled CNY 455.6 Billion

+   Data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on January 18 shows that China’s 3G subscribers was 128 million at the end of 2011. China Telecom Co., Ltd. (HKEX: 0728) and China United Network Communications Ltd. (China Unicom) (SSE: 600050) had 37.19 million and 40.02 million 3G subscribers respectively.
+   China currently has 814,000 3G base stations in total, of these, China Telecom has 269,500 and China Unicom has 324,500.
+   Total 3G investments accumulated CNY 455.6 billion.
